For the community by the community

Charities are at the heart of what we do

Surbiton Farmers’ Market has made an enormous difference to the lives of our very special young carers. They show a sensitive understanding of their needs and are very supportive. With their kind generosity, we have offered opportunities of a lifetime, such as trips to Harry Potter World and The Lion King, as well as ongoing targeted emotional support to particularly vulnerable children. We are hugely grateful.

Kingston Carers’ Network – Young Carers’ Project

We are proud that Surbiton Farmers’ Market is run by the community for the community.  At the heart of this is the support we provide to local charities and good causes.  By shopping at the market, you are helping to raise vital funds for a broad range of charities serving the local area.  To-date, we have raised over £60,000 for over 50 charities including:

Mind in Kingston – Joel Community Services – Shooting Star Chase – Surrey Wildlife Trust – Born Too Soon – Refugee Action Kingston – Kingston Association for the Blind – Momentum Children’s Charity – The Royal Star & Garter Homes – Fircroft Trust – Oxygen – TAG Youth Club – Princess Alice Hospice – River Thames Boat Project – 1stSurbiton Sea Scouts – Balance CIC – Kingston Carers’ Network

How we support local charities

Each month, we are delighted to welcome a different charity to the market.  Volunteers from the charity have a stall free of charge to engage with local shoppers, promoting the work they do, raising funds and chatting to potential volunteers.  Surbiton Farmers’ Market match-funds the money they raise on the day up to £250.

If you work or volunteer for a local charity or good cause and are interested in having a stall at Surbiton Farmers’ Market, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with Robyn McAllister on charities@surbitonfarmersmarket.co.uk.

Raising funds at the market through stallholders’ fees and fundraising activities has enabled us to make many larger donations over the years.  Here are just some of the projects that we’ve been able to help thanks to the generosity of everyone who supports the market each month:

  • £1,276 for Momentum Children’s Charity towards the cost of refurbishing wards for children with cancer at Kingston Hospital
  • £1,000 to Kingston Association for the Blind for trips and activities to combat loneliness and social isolation
  • £1,090 to Kingston Carers’ Network’s Young Carers’ Project to support a Christmas ice-skating trip
  • £450 to Joel Community Services, a Kingston-based homeless shelter, for their book club
